Frequently Asked Questions
What is CrofDa?
CrofDa is short for Crescent of Darkness. It would have been COD, but I decided I didn't want that to get mixed up with Call of Duty™. Crescent of Darkness is the first book of my series.
What is Crescent of Darkness about?
The essence of Earth is stolen, so three teenagers with special amulets have to go to a different planet, make a team, and get Earth back from a wizard dictator.
What about Tales of Vagary?
Well, there are actually multiple parts to this one. The first part is about a young boy who is trapped on an alien planet and has to complete a dangerous trial to return home. The second part is about Matthew trying to finally track down the 'elusive' and 'mysterious' Griffin Voltaire.
Who is(are) your editor(s)?
Myself and Marrisa Thornton, owner of Articulate Editing Services. For the older version of Crescent of Darkness, it was Dr. Michelle Boone-Thornton, Dr. Ran Walker, and Mr. Tim Davidson.
What publishing company did you use?
I self-published, using NOOKPress, KindleDirectPublishing, and Ingramspark
Who were the beta readers?
For Tales of Vagary: Allie Ahwee-Marrah, Xavier Hall, Nick Pierson, Jason Pixley, Jordan Thomas, and Colton Stump
For the new Crescent of Darkness: Xavier Hall
For the old Crescent of Darkness: Kira Bell, Maddy Cunningham, Grace Holloway, Sharon Martineau, Chris Mitchell, Qasim Qasim, Kaitlin Rayle, Nick Stivers, and Ashley West
How long did it take you to write your books?
For Crescent of Darkness, I don't know! Let's solve this with some math.
I remember coming up with the title and basic premise back in 7th grade, and I released the book when I was a sophomore in high school. At the same time, I sat on it for a while and only put in work during school breaks, so I'll have to take a stab and say 6 months total.

The middle two versions I cranked out pretty quick to try and cover up the well below average quality of the original. The second version (2-3 weeks) was just minor tune-ups but the third version (7-8 months) was a bit of a revamp. It was still very low quality, but much better than the first two.

I wasn't satisfied with moving on to Book 2 with such a weak first installment, so I decided to slow down, focus, and dedicate myself to making a well-refined product I could feel confident about. Completely obliterating everything and rebuilding with the pieces took me 14 months, 11 of which were overlapped with helpful, cutthroat editing.
=
An unnecessarily long time.
For Tales of Vagary? About two years.
Where can I get a copy of it?
For Crescent of Darkness: Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Apple iBooks all have the ebook available. The paperback (floppy cover) is available on Createspace and Amazon. Be careful; many online stores still carry the old versions in paperback too! Hardcover (sturdy cover) is available on Barnes & Noble and Amazon websites.
For Tales of Vagary: Amazon has both the ebook and paperback versions available, but the rest is still in development.
How many units have you sold?
Crescent of Darkness: ~60
How much money do you get per book sold?
Not much. Each ebook sale gets me about a fistful of quarters, paperback is a little less, and hardback is pretty much the monetary equivalent of pocket lint. That's okay though, I'm doing this more so for fun than for money. And if it is your dream to make a living writing books, don't be discouraged! With hard work and dedication, it will certainly be profitable for you!
Are you going to make an audiobook?
Yes, it should be available Summer 2021.
Why are there a bajillion versions of Crescent of Darkness?
You know, first book, ya make mistakes. Five versions of mistakes? Sure.
Do you have any T-shirts or other merch?
I will hopefully have an online shirt store up and running someday... eventually
Will you have your series in [insert country/language here]?
Surprisingly, it's available in a bunch of countries: Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Poland, Russia, South Korea, Spain, the UK, and of course the US. Unfortunately, if you are in a non-English speaking country, the book will still be in English.

Who's that a picture of?
Yoseph Hollingsworth, one of the four narrators of the book.
Who's Vijay Thor?
Me, just my name on G+, Twitter, Snapchat, and YouTube. I was planning on that being my pseudonym for writing, then I thought of Seth Barnes, then InkFire, and finally I just decided on my real name. I also go by General Tso sometimes. Long story.
Is Yoseph supposed to be you?
No.
What is the "something extra" at the end of Tales of Vagary?
